Beat the Chill

Maya for Global Peace & Serenity undertakes this project every year during the winter season. Winter in Delhi is among the coldest in India. And while we enjoy this season wearing our trendy winter garments or having a nice sleep under that warm blanket, there are some who struggle for survival in order to beat this chill. While some of us want the season to stay, some pray to fight the chill of a winter night. There are thousands of people who live in the poorest of conditions – be it the railway station, the slums, the camps or even the roads. These people can’t afford to keep them well-supplied during the season and hence, Delhi sees a lot of deaths during these cold months. Maya cares for these people. For the last two years, Maya has been donating warm and woolen clothes to slums and roadside camps all over Delhi in the months of December, January and February. The clothes are collected from people who wish to donate some of their clothes for this cause and these in turn are distributed among those who need them the most. The organisation is grateful to each and every person from Delhi and across the country who have donated their clothes for the needy in the last two years.
